First Day of Shop #2

First Day of Shop #2

In the interest of meeting the increasing demand for service, we have acquired two bays in a off site location to perform our more “time consuming” services of Chumbley’s Auto Care. With this move, we hope to service our customers in a more timely fashion. We will have one tech working at this shop. We will retain 3 techs at the main shop, along with Keegan, Jackie, Mark and Tim. This Van is getting a new engine installed by ASE Master Tech Josh Truman

Simpson College Auto Care Service Center

Simpson College Auto Care Service Center

My kids are not out of Community school yet- but the day is getting closer. When that happens, I too will have to source my “go-to-team” of professionals I can call on to help my Son – or daughter out of a jam. Sure I will go over the car with a fine tooth comb to make sure it is ready to leave on the College voyage. But their is always the freak accident of locking keys in the car, or hitting a object in the road and causing a flat tire – you know that kind of stuff. I will look for a facility that employees are ASE Certified, and has a nationwide warranty of at least 2 years / 24k miles. A place that gives back to the community and the college or school. Here at Chumbley’s we are those guys for you! I just hope I can find a Chumbley’s where ever my kids attend

A Noise from my wheels

Here at Chumbley’s, we often receive phone calls asking about a noise that appears when the wheels are rolling or stopping. It can range from and grinding, or squeaking noise, to a rhythmic click type noise. I will say that the most common causes are 1) worn out brake parts. 2) lose lug nuts ( Always have them “re-toured” after about 50 mile travel – post wheel installation on the vehicle). 3) Road debris – rocks wedged into places they are not to be. Those are the top three causes we see. If you hear any type of unfamiliar noise coming from the wheel area, stop in to Chumbley’s Auto Care in Indianola, IA and request that someone simply go for a ride around the block and listen to your noise concern. We will be happy to help, and may save you a lot of headache

Hunter Wheel Alignment

Hunter Wheel Alignment

Chumbley’s recently added a brand new “Flush Mount” drive on wheel alignment rack. This rack is set into the floor, to be “level” with the shop floor. The advantage is several. No damage to low to the ground cars. Less shop ceiling height needed. No drive on ramps needed. Keep us in mind the next time your car / or light truck needs some attention in the steering or suspension

Road Force Tire balance machine Indianola

Road Force Tire balance machine Indianola

Chumbley’s is proud to say we are one of very few shops in the Central Iowa Des Moines Metro area that operates a Hunter Road Force Tire Balancer. Why a road force? This is the only machine that dynamic balances the tire. It measures the spring rate of the sidewall of each tire, and then tells the operator where to place when installing on the vehicle. It will pick up faulty or failing tires. Call us today to have your tires Road Force Balanced

Hybrid Car Payback / Cost

This is a run down of added cost of Hybrid car VS a normal Gas motor vehicle. The actual calculations will depend on the types of vehicles selected. I will give you two examples to compare. Let’s say that you are considering purchasing a 2005 Toyota Corolla or a 2005 Toyota Prius – both have excellent fuel economy. A Prius (hybrid) may cost around $22,000, while a comparably equipped Corolla (non-hybrid) may run around $16,000. It is estimated that a Prius will achieve about 55 MPG (combined highway/city), while a Corolla will achieve 34 MPG (combined highway/city) with an automatic transmission. If you only considered fuel costs the following would be true. At 100,000 miles the Prius would have used about 1818 gallons ($4091) of fuel while the Corolla consumed 2941 gallons ($6617). To calculate gallons, take the miles driven divided by MPG (e.g., 100,000/55 = 1818). If gas prices averaged $2.25 a gallon, the Prius would have saved you about $2,526. Since the sticker price ... read more
